Our Curriculum
Skills, play, and faith — woven together.
The Early Learning Center at MTCS provides PK3 (pre-kindergarten for 3-year-old children) and PK4 (pre-kindergarten for 4-year-old and some 5-year-old children). Both programs teach a Christ-centered curriculum in a fun environment, preparing students for kindergarten and the world beyond.
PK3 Curriculum
Our PK3 program teaches a healthy balance of skills that promote the development of a 3-year-old child’s spirit, mind and social responsibility. Our teachers present the curriculum through fun, playful activities that incorporate a variety of learning styles — allowing students to grow and mature socially and establish a strong academic foundation.
Bible
Each day, students are read Bible stories from The Beginners Bible (Zondervan). This sequential collection of Old and New Testament stories is the foundation for our activities, songs and role-play — teaching Christian principles that apply to daily life.
Language Arts
We use Reading Street (Scott Foresman) to launch students into the world of reading — expanding speech, listening, letter knowledge and cognitive development through literature, Bible stories, poems, songs and dramatic play.
Math
We leverage children’s love of discovery to explore number recognition and counting. With hands-on items, dynamic games and daily calendar routines, students build math skills through repetition and enrichment.
Social Studies
Through literature and activities, we help students explore the special places and people of this wonderful world that God created.
Science
Children love to experiment — it’s never too early to have fun being a scientist. From planting a seed to watching a butterfly’s life cycle, students see and live God’s creations through hands-on activities.
Pre-Handwriting
Our teachers provide activities to develop fine motor skills. Play-Doh, clay, markers, crayons and sand strengthen the hands and fingers, and students have fun writing on a variety of materials.
Art
We encourage students to observe the amazing palette of colors, lines and shapes that God, the master artist, put in our world. A weekly art class uses various materials to teach the elements of design.
Music
Just like King David, students learn to express themselves through music and song. In chapel and class we sing Bible songs, and a bi-weekly music class teaches rhythm, melody and instruments.
Centered Learning
Working together in small groups, children take charge of their own learning through exploration and creativity — encouraging socialization, self-esteem and self-expression.
PK4 Curriculum
Our PK4 program is designed to stimulate the developmental milestones of 4-year-olds. At this age, children are energetic, curious and building their brainpower. Our curriculum helps students develop lasting life skills and sharpen social, gross and fine motor skills by immersing them in a multitude of experiences.

Pre-Reading & Language Arts
Happily Ever After by the Rowland Reading Foundation is a reading-readiness program built on classic children’s literature — teaching color, shape, vocabulary, phonological awareness, print/book awareness and fine motor skills for a strong reading foundation.
Math
My Math – PreKindergarten (McGraw-Hill) gives hands-on experience with number core, comparison, addition and subtraction strategies, measurement and patterning — essential foundations from kindergarten through algebra and beyond.
Social Studies
In our daily reading of God’s word we examine the world God made — teaching national holidays, famous people in U.S. history, and how family, school and community life differs across countries and times.
Science
Preschoolers learn best by being involved, so we teach science through observation and hands-on experimentation — plants, animals and life cycles, seasons and weather, and the human body.
Pre-Handwriting
A 15-minute daily routine strengthens fine motor development. Happily Ever After adds hands-on, multisensory activities that build good handwriting habits.
